Joining the Missional Story

Jesus is Missional.  So Jesus feeds the 5000 (maybe 20,000 counting women and children) – Matt 14.  Then, when Matt 16 begins, there are 4,000 who need to eat (maybe 15,000?), and the disciples say, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” What the heck?  They just saw the 5000 get fed, didn’t they? I look around the room at the Vineyard and see a ton of people who are walking with Jesus.  I don’t know everyone’s story, but some of the ones I know are stunning.  God made some awesome moves to find some of us, and we’re amazed at the stories. Then, for some reason, we don’t think he wants to do those same things with other people?  Using us?  He’s missional, we get that.  We want to be missional too, but when push comes to shove, we’re not so sure.  Where’re we going to get some bread? I know, you think that if YOU had been there and had seen those thousands, you would never doubt anything again.  We must never lose sight of a human being’s vast capacity for unbelief.  Being aware of that, we have to fight against unbelief constantly.

  1. Stay filled with the Spirit.
  2. Read the Word very regularly.
  3. Hang around people who have lots of faith.
  4. Then hang around people who have no faith in God and constantly ask God what he’s doing in their lives.
  5. Pray for them, and ask God how he wants to use you.

Be missional.
